North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham has served on the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee since 2020 and his tenure will end with him serving as the chair of the committee for the 2024-2025 campaign, the school announced in a press release on Thursday.

Cunningham, who is the first UNC AD to serve on the committee, will also be the committee's vice president for the upcoming academic year.

"It's an incredible honor to selected by my peers to chair this committee," Cunningham said on Thursday. "During my tenure at North Carolina, I've seen my colleagues Ron Wellman from Wake Forest (2014) and Kevin White from Duke (2020) chair this group and admired them for having this great professional opportunity. To be able to follow in the footsteps of those men and others, including Charles McClelland, who I look forward to supporting this year, is quite the privilege."

With the announcement of the committee for the 2023-2024 sports year, Cunningham will be the lone representative from the ACC.

He has served as the athletic director in Chapel Hill since 2011 and has been in charge of crucial hires in recent years, including Mack Brown and Hubert Davis.

Prior to his time with the Tar Heels, he was the athletic director at both Ball State and Tulsa.

Will the ACC as a whole benefit from Cunningham's presence as the chair from 2024-2025?
