Chargers Experts Unpack LA's Mindset Heading Into Draft
We finally made it, Charger fans, Drfat Day! The course of the whole franchise can change on this day, and it's exciting to bring in new, fresh, young players ready to make their mark on football's biggest stage.
Your Los Angeles Chargers hold seven total draft picks, including the 21st pick in the first round. Chargers GM Tom Telesco and the front office can go in many ways, and we'll find out how they'll approach it soon enough. In the meantime, Chargers insider for the Atheltic Daniel Popper and the Athletics NFL Staff broke down ways the Cahrgers mindset approach the draft; here's what they had to say about the Bolts'.
The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the most injured teams in football in 2022. They fought through those injuries to make the playoffs, but the season ended in disaster with a 27-point blown lead in a wild-card playoff loss to Jacksonville. The goal this offseason was to keep the roster as intact as possible to run it back with their nucleus of star players. The Chargers restructured four contracts — Mack, Joey Bosa, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams — to clear immediate cap space and achieve that goal. The Chargers hope they will be able to contend for a Super Bowl with better injury luck. But they must build out their depth over the remainder of this offseason to make that possible.
Some of the Chargers' biggest names suffered grueling injuries during the 2022 season, and some were due to the wear and tear of older players on their roster.
Los Angeles could use all the help they can get, but Popper and the NFL staff list: tight end, wide receiver, edge rusher, interior offensive lineman, and an interior defensive lineman as the biggest needs for the Bolts.
They have seven picks right now, but that could multiply by the end of the night, and through the course of this weekend—there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the franchise and its fans. Sit back, and hopefully, you Charger fans love your new players.
